about

My background is in environmental science with a professional career as a polar oceanograher. I remain committed to science but I now combine freelance writing projects with my life as an endurance athlete.  In both my professional and personal life I am deeply committed to our responsibility of working towards environmental and social sustainability.

I studied Natural Sciencs at Cambridge University and my passion for the Antarctic was sparked by an opportunity to take part in a research cruise while working at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).  I went on to complete a PhD in physical oceanography before returning to employment at BAS as a physical oceanographer.  During this time I participated in seven research cruises, mainly to the Southern Ocean, South Georgia and the Antarctic.

I have particular expertise in environmental and scientific writing, with extensive experience of  collaborating with international colleagues to publish scientific papers, edit and write reports.

As an endurance athlete and mountaineer it is very important to me to share my love of running, mountaineering and wild places.  Having always had a love of reading and writing, it has been natural to turn to the written word as a medium for sharing my passions.
